Research direction

Start by reproducing the failure with BuddyBoss and Modern Image Formats enabled, using the listed avatar upload and cropping steps, then inspect the resulting error and the relevant image-upload or cropping entry point. Done means PNG and JPG avatar uploads can be cropped successfully with Modern Image Formats enabled, while the existing behavior remains intact when it is disabled.
