Description
I ask as I would like to add a similar patch to this https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/pull/179 for Metal Gear Solid 1's GOG release, but since it's not on Steam I have no idea if its acceptable. And as all main forks of Proton pull from here directly I can't patch those projects individually.
Understandable If the answer is no, but I would just prefer to ask before making a PR.

Research direction
Start by reading the referenced ValveSoftware/wine pull request 179 and the issue's question about the Metal Gear Solid 1 GOG release. Before changing code, determine whether Proton accepts workarounds for non-Steam games; done requires a maintainer decision on scope, followed by a separately defined patch if the answer is yes.
