Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Using SteamOS 3.9 (Preview), primary monitor (connected on DP-3) does not work in Gaming Mode. Instead, it falls back to secondary monitor on HDMI, despite editing modes.cfg and making a custom environment.d/10-gamescope-session.conf
Rolling back to SteamOS 3.8.26 (Beta) resolved this issue; the configs are now respected and Gaming Mode uses my primary monitor.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Select SteamOS Preview (3.9)
- Reboot
- See display use wrong monitor.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the issue on SteamOS 3.9 Preview using the listed steps, then inspect modes.cfg and environment.d/10-gamescope-session.conf while comparing behavior with SteamOS 3.8.26. Done means Gaming Mode uses the configured primary monitor on DP-3 instead of falling back to the HDMI display.
