Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

at steam boot, audio devices default to mono in one side in initialization on a semi-regular basis (possibly to do with the switching between audio devices) this goes away when sometimes when passing by the mono option in accessibility options.

Steps for reproducing this issue:
  1. reset steam
  2. connect headphones
  3. reset steam
  4. connect a different pair.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue with the listed Steam reset and headphone-switching sequence, then compare behavior when passing through the accessibility mono option. Trace the SteamOS audio-device initialization and switching path; done means repeated device changes preserve correct stereo output and balance.
