- Proton version: 7.0-6, 8.0-2 & Experimental
I confirm:
- that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
- that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
Symptoms
- The default Proton version that Steam selected for me was 7.0-6, and the "anime" opening movie is completely skipped after the developer/publisher logos as if there was never a movie to begin with. Switching to 8.0-2 or Experimental plays this opening movie normally.
- After the (~2 hour) tutorial, the game will play a second "gameplay" opening movie. On 7.0-6, the movie simply gets skipped as if it never existed. On 8.0-2 and Experimental, the game freezes for a few seconds when it starts to load the movie, then shows a video calibration screen (the one with colored bars), then proceeds to the next scene. Proton log on 8.0-2: steam-1502980.log
- Performance is playable but kinda bad on the Deck by default, running at 36 FPS on the main menu and an unstable 30-40 FPS around the tutorial town. Apparently this has been the case for every DX11 Atelier/Gust game, and requires a drop-in .dll from doitsujin to get 55-60 FPS on the Deck. Hopefully this fix can somehow be integrated into Proton directly, since it's an issue that affects multiple games.

Research direction
Start with the attached steam-1502980.log and compare the reported behavior across Proton 7.0-6, 8.0-2, and Experimental. Review the linked atelier-sync-fix DLL as an investigation reference; done means the movie playback and Steam Deck performance issues have a verified compatibility outcome.
