Symptoms

Videos in story mode don't play, only the intro.

Reproduction

There are two ways:

• Start Calamity Trigger story mode. The video does not play.
• Go to the gallery section and try playing a video.

Here is what happens:

What I found so far:

• The videos can be found in data/Movie of the installation directory.
• The sound codec is wmav2 and the video codec is wmv3 for all videos, so gstreamer needs the libav plugin.
• The intro video plays correctly, but gallery videos don't play at all, despite having the same codecs.
• All videos play with ProtonGE8-6, but GE the sound does not work.
• Proton includes gstreamer libraries so it's not related to the OS.
• There's some kind of registry change in compatdata/294810/gstreamer-1.0.
• BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger didn't seem to have the same problem.
• Found out not all story mode videos fail, only some.

Start by reviewing steam-294810.log alongside the reproduction steps for Calamity Trigger story mode and the gallery. Inspect the videos under data/Movie and the compatdata/294810/gstreamer-1.0 changes, comparing the working intro and ProtonGE8-6 behavior. Done means the affected story and gallery videos play with working sound.
