Description

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: TRON: Evolution
  • Steam AppID of the game: 315440

System Information

  • GPU: GTX 1060
  • Driver/LLVM version: nvidia 530.41
  • Kernel version: 6.2.12-zen1-1-zen
  • Link to full system information report as Gist:
  • Proton version: All of them but currently GE-proton8-1
(I was able to install this game from CD only on wine 5.2 but it still required a lot of tinkering. I couldn't get it to work from Steam with any proton version.
I don't think I ever got any good results on proton but the closest I got to launching the game was (for some reason) on GE-proton7.9

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Almost working (black screen):
steam-315440-GE-Proton7.9.log

No response:
steam-315440-Proton-5.0-10.log
steam-315440-Proton-5.13-6.log
steam-315440-Proton-8.0-1.log

Symptoms

Generally the game is not starting at all / play button returns to green after a few seconds.
If heavily tweaked, it does show the activation screen, launcher and starts loading the game but gets stuck on a black screen.

Reproduction

Game is not working by default.
My struggles with getting it past the launcher required installing d3dx9, dotnet40 and dotnet45 from protontricks and GFWL and physx manually, from downloaded files (not the add program / DLL in protontricks).

And again, I've managed to get this game working under wine 5.2.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the attached Proton logs for GE-Proton7.9, Proton 5.0-10, 5.13-6, and 8.0-1, then compare them with the reported Wine 5.2 behavior and required dependencies. Done would mean identifying a cause and enabling TRON: Evolution to launch past the activation screen and black screen.
