I confirm:
- that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
- that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
Proton log omitted for now, see below.
Symptoms
The game is Steam Deck verified, yet launching it on my desktop is a gamble. It will either
- do nothing, i.e. the button will go CANCEL → STOP → PLAY within a few seconds
- open a window with all-black contents (no sound) and hang there, displaying Loading TyranoScript in the title bar
- as above, only the title bar has the title of the game
- launch, but the window contents will be slightly offset vs the window borders, e.g. they might overlap the title bar; if so, mouse input is off correspondingly, i.e. it's just the graphics that's shifted, the hot areas for the mouse remain the same. In this case, the game will behave normally once switched to fullscreen
- launch normally
Unfortunately, the last two outcomes are very rare, and I haven't found a way to force a particular one.
Like, stock Proton 7 will almost always produce the first result, but if I start Steam from the terminal instead of the GUI or enable PROTON_LOG, it will typically produce a (hung) window, with a more or less successful start every once in a blue moon. Experimental doesn't seem to make a difference, but latest GE [7-43] has a success rate of > 50 %.
I'll try to collect a Proton log for all these cases if it really helps, but as I said, enabling logging seems to change things. If I had to guess, some sort of timing issue.
Reproduction
Run game, or try to. May be hardware-specific, e.g. number of cores.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the launch behavior on the reported Ubuntu system with the listed Proton versions and the game's Steam launch entry point. Compare successful, black-window, and immediate-exit cases using the generated steam-1950570.log from PROTON_LOG=1; done requires isolating a reproducible failure and identifying the relevant Proton component.
