Description

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Highline Volleyball VR
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1852940

System Information

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

As with many other VR games, game does not start in VR mode, only in the screen.

Reproduction

Just start the game via SteamVR or pressing play on the desktop client. It will open a window on the screen and show nothing in VR.

steam-1852940.log

And... Yeah, what's going on? Why are there so many games that just won't appear in the headset lately? This steam log does not have the err:vrclient:create_win_interface error as in bug #6356. And does not seem to have the same OpenVR woes as bug #6106. There is also bug #5336. Apart from starting on the screen and not on the headset, there's also something common to all these bug reports: no activity after initial comment, they all seem to have been abandoned. Are we to believe VR on Linux is not a thing anymore? If that's the case, please let me know -- I write for a portal (boilingsteam) about VR on Linux and if there will be no more investment from Valve, I will also stop doing it too.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the report through SteamVR and the desktop client with Proton 7.0-5, then inspect steam-1852940.log. Compare the symptoms with issues #6356, #6106, and #5336 to identify the relevant VR subsystem. Done means the game starts in the headset rather than only in its desktop window.
