Symptoms

Game will launch and allow you to interact with menus etc, and then will freeze (no crash) on starting a new game. Switching to proton 4.2-9 will allow the game to load and run. It also appears that after launching and starting a game with 4.2-9, you can switch back to experimental/any version and the game will load a save (and a new game from scratch too), although i haven't tested this much.

Reproduction

Using any proton version except 4.2-9, start the game. At the main menu, press new game. The game will freeze. Switching to 4.2-9 will allow the game to load the tutorial mission.

Start by reproducing the freeze with Proton Experimental/7 and compare it with Proton 4.2-9, using the attached steam-973230.log for evidence. Investigate the behavior when starting a new game and when loading a save; done means the game can start a new game on current Proton versions without freezing.
