Description

Proton version: Proton Experimental (As of 14.10.22), seems to affect older versions as well.

"Van Ooijen Technische Informatica Joystick" seems to be a board that some custom controllers use, device is displayed as "BlueBerryJoy" in Windows for some reason. I have two of them - one is identified as nerzhul.cc NWTC_V102 (it's a steering wheel mod that adds blinkers/wipers controls) and another is SIMVERTEX SIMVERTEX TH13 which is a gearshift knob with range/splitter toggles as well as an extra button. Both are built with intent on using them with Euro/American Truck Simluator, and both have ID 16c0:27dc.

They show up just fine in jstest-gtk and in windows versions of games, also using control joy.cpl shows them just fine, but games don't seem to be able to find them or possibly ignore them for whatever reason - windows version of ETS2 doesn't detect them and if you "force" (i.e. i used my windows config file) them to use specific device game will report them as missing. Another game that doesn't detect those is Crazy Taxi (config tool). Notably - it does detect thrustmaster steering wheel and shifter knob just fine. Using control joy.cpl to add those joysticks doesn't help, adding udev rules also doesn't help.

Thread about this on SCS forums where another person is also trying to figure this issue out.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue with Proton Experimental, the 16c0:27dc devices, and a game such as Euro Truck Simulator or Crazy Taxi; compare visibility through dinput8, jstest-gtk, and the Windows control panel. Review the linked SCS forum discussion and existing joystick handling, then consider the issue resolved when affected games detect and can use these controllers without special configuration.
