Symptoms

This game has very few problems, however there is a very specific menu that often causes the game to get into a locked and unrecoverable state. In the "Perks" menu, when mousing over abilities, there are little videos that pop up showing you a preview of what the gameplay looks like. When viewing these the log starts to emit some concerning messages (see below), and usually (but not always) this results in a crash with the line

I have not found a way to recover the game from this state

Reproduction

Play game, mouse over options in "Perks" menu. The problem is intermittent, but occurs frequently enough to make it difficult to play the game.

Start by reproducing the intermittent lock or crash in the game's Perks menu with Proton Experimental on a comparable Linux setup. Compare the winegstreamer, mfplat, and critical-section messages while previewing the ability videos; done means the previews no longer leave the game locked or unrecoverable.
