Symptoms

Launching the game simply does nothing, adding PROTON_NO_D3D11 / PROTON_NO_D3D10 to the launch options starts the game launcher but that crashes / hangs after a few seconds.

The game it self does run when using the 'No Launcher' option but that makes it so you can't use workshop content. (the launcher enables them)

I looked at protonDB and tried using the windows 7 setting & installing dotnet 4.5.2 but that didn't work.

Reproduction

1. Install automation on steam
2. Start the game
3. Select the first launch option
4. Press play
5. Game doesn't start

Start by reproducing the launch sequence in the issue, including the first launch option and the PROTON_NO_D3D11 or PROTON_NO_D3D10 variants. Review steam-293760.log alongside the reported system information; done means identifying and addressing why the launcher fails while preserving workshop-content access.
