I confirm:
- that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
- that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
The game is already refunded, I'm not sure if Steam would look kindly on me purchasing the game again to write these reports and refund again if there's no solution.
Symptoms
Starting the windows version of the game (and similar games as well, see 1290270 (Vampire: The Masquerade — Night Road, issues described here), the appearing game window stays white. However, the game is running and is, in fact, working. Scrolling the mouse cursor over the main game window you can see the cursor changing to a text select cursor - and, if selecting everything using Ctrl-A and pasting it into a text editor, you can see that the game text is actually there, it just seems to be white on white.
Reproduction
Start the game in Proton compatibility mode, when the white window appears, scroll the cursor over the window to see the cursor changing.

Research direction
Review the linked full system report and related issue 1290270, then reproduce with Proton Experimental or 6.3.8 using Steam AppID 1266100. Capture $HOME/steam-1266100.log if possible and compare the white-window behavior; done means the game renders readable text instead of white-on-white.
