Symptoms

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer suffers the same fate as BO:II Zombies which is that after a few seconds of launching the game, an Unhandled Exception error occurs, crashing the game. Oddly enough you are able to connect to online before crashing (I'm assuming a library is missing?).

Have tested 6.3-7 too, same thing.

Reproduction

  1. Download and install Call of Duty: Black Ops II: Multiplayer.
  2. Enable "Proton Experimental" under Settings > Compatibility
  3. Launch game
  4. The game launches. Regardless of user input the game will crash. An error will pop up in the background stating "unhandled exception caught."

Research direction

Start by reviewing steam-202990.log and the linked System Info report, then reproduce the crash with Proton Experimental and the reported Proton 6.3-7 version. Compare the launch behavior and logs to identify the compatibility failure; done means the game launches and remains usable without the unhandled exception.
