I confirm:
- that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
- that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
At least my PS4 controller via USB and bluetooth and my SN30Pro+ controller in XInput, DInput and generic controller mode via USB and bluetooth aren't recognized by this game if steam overlay is disabled.
This affects the windows and linux version.
SteamInput, Disabled SteamInput and default settings all aren't recognized ingame.
Enabling steam overlay makes the game recognize all these input types again.
This issue also affects at least Zanki Zero and Shin Megami Tensei 3 HD at the moment.
Reproduction
- Disable steam overlay
- Start the windows or linux version of Octodad
- Exit the game via mouse and keyboard as the controller inputs aren't recognized.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the controller-recognition failure with the Steam overlay disabled, following the listed steps for the Windows or Linux version. Review steam-224480.log and compare the tested PS4 and SN30Pro+ input modes. Done means the affected controllers are recognized in-game without requiring the Steam overlay.
