Description

So I've tried using Proton Experimental and 6.3-7, both don't work. I'm trying to launch Hitman 2 specifically but this does happen with other games. Hitting Play has the game say "Launching" then "Stop" for a brief moment before reverting back to "Play". No windows shows up, nothing visible happens apart from the game status changing for a brief moment. I'm running Pop!_OS 21.04

Things I've tried:

  1. Checking drivers
  2. Using the NTFS fix
  3. Moving Hitman 2 from a NTFS partition to an Ext4 partition

Here is what shows up in console before running the game:

Here is what shows up after running the game:

Research direction

Start by reproducing the launch failure with Hitman 2 on Proton Experimental and 6.3-7, then compare the before- and after-launch console logs in the two linked Pastebin reports. Done means identifying a specific, actionable cause for the failed launch rather than only confirming that the game returns from “Stop” to “Play”.
