- Steam AppID of the game: 977880
System Information
- GPU: AMD 5700XT
- Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 21.2.1/LLVM 12.0.1
- Kernel version: 5.14.2-1
- Link to full system information report as Gist
- Proton version: Proton Experimental (though it doesn't matter)
I confirm:
- that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
- that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
Symptoms
-
The game requires you to force a steam play compatibility tool (apparently there is a linux build? But that doesn't work because it can't find Eastward.exe). This is probably an oversight of the developer.
-
Game does not work in the normal mode. Window opens and closes after 2 seconds (It does start with Proton-6.16-GE-1, however the entire screen is and stays black.)
In order for it to work you have to run it through the OpenGL version. With that everything seems to work just fine. So playable but not with the default setting (which it probably/maybe should be able to.. unfortunately I don't know the difference between the versions because the system requirements only mention opengl)
Reproduction
Start the game.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the attached steam-977880-non-opengl.log and reproducing Eastward (Steam AppID 977880) with Proton Experimental in normal and OpenGL modes. Compare the launch behavior and determine what Proton-side change would make the default mode work; done means the game launches without the reported black screen or immediate exit.
