Symptoms
Mostly plays flawlessly. However, when you lose a battle, a FMV is supposed to play showing some fancy effects to indicate time being rewound. Instead a placeholder test pattern is displayed probably due to lack of Windows Media Foundation support. This is experienced for the first time as part of the game tutorial where the game forces you into a defeat scenario.
Reproduction
- Open game in Steam.
- Start a new game normally.
- You will reach a part in the tutorial where you will be forced to lose.
- The game provides some exposition then claims that it will rewind time to back before you lose.
- A FMV is supposed to commence. However a test pattern is shown instead.
- Game will proceed as usual after showing test pattern for a few seconds.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the tutorial defeat sequence with Proton Experimental and review the attached steam-1357860.log alongside the reported Windows Media Foundation hypothesis. Done means the rewind FMV displays its intended effects instead of the placeholder test pattern and the game continues normally afterward.
