Description

It doesn't seem to matter which game I launch but it definitely happens on the following:

  • Grip
  • Elite Dangerous
  • Supreme Commander 2

I have a Blue Yeti Nano which works fine, but whenever I launch a game using proton the green "ok" LED starts flashing yellow and the microphone stops working.

This is resolved by running pulseaudio -k. When doing so, the game's audio still works and the microphone is reconnected.

It seems like proton does some kind of pulseaudio configuration which breaks the microphone. I don't have any other microphones to test with but this issue happens consistently. Is there any way to debug this or a setting which stops proton from messing with pulseaudio?

It doesn't seem to always happen but it's at least 80% of the time I launch the game. pulseaudio -k always fixes it.

Research direction

Reproduce the failure with the listed Proton games and the Blue Yeti Nano, then compare microphone behavior before and after launching a game. Use pulseaudio -k only as the recovery baseline; done means identifying the Proton or PulseAudio interaction and preventing the microphone failure without restarting PulseAudio.
