Symptoms
Launcher is broken, but can be bypassed. Game will not start without 'd3dcompiler_47'.
Game performance is choppy compared to Windows. Windowing and resolution issues.
Reproduction
- Attempt to start the game through the launcher. The launcher will show a black screen and be unusable.
- The launcher can be bypassed by entering 'complete' as a launch option. This will skip the launcher and attempt to boot the game, but the game will hang on a black screen for about 5-30 seconds then instantly crash with a very unhelpful UE4 "Fatal Error".
- Installing 'd3dcompiler_47' through protontricks allows the game to start, but you may run into a windowing bug where only part of the game will render in a small window. In order to fix, either the game's config has to be edited manually, or you have to set the game to Windowed, alt-tab out and back in, then set your graphical settings from there.

Research direction
Start by reviewing steam-257030.log and reproducing the launcher, startup, and windowing symptoms with the listed Proton versions. Check the d3dcompiler_47 dependency and the documented launch option; done means the reported compatibility failures are addressed and the game can start and render normally.
