Symptoms
It's a regression. Game switched from OpenVR to OpenXR. Now it seemingly cannot initialize OpenXR and when started, starts in the screen (where it's not even interactable, because it's VR-only) and not the headset.
Reproduction
Just start SteamVR and start the game from within it.
For information:
- With Proton 5.13, shortly after running it, SteamVR crashes and the headset goes off. With 6.3-4 and Experimental game just starts in the monitor

.
- Tried with Proton 6.3-4 and then cleaned the prefix and tried with Proton Experimental. both logs are attached.
- It might be related this bug on The Dark Mod VR, a native VR Linux game which also switched from OpenVR to OpenXR. This bug refers to this other bug in SteamVR.
Attached are two screenshots of the game after starting in the screen instead of the headset and the two log files - with proton 6.3-4 and experimental.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the game launch through SteamVR with Proton 6.3-4 and Proton Experimental, then inspect the attached steam-1178780-proton-experimental.log and steam-1178780-proton-6.3.log files. Compare the behavior with the linked OpenXR-related reports; done means the game initializes OpenXR in the headset rather than opening only on the monitor.
