Description
Compatibility Report
- Name of the game with compatibility issues: Dead Herring
- Steam AppID of the game: 1498490
System Information
- GPU: Radeon RX 6800 XT
- Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 21.0.1
- Kernel version: 5.11.11-144-tkg-bmq
- Link to full system information report as Gist: https://gist.github.com/Patola/51e32d962485037de9f46202de92d02b
- Proton version: 6.3-2
I confirm:
- that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
- that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.
Symptoms
- Game doesn't seem to be rendering the holograms which are an essential gameplay element, thus one can't even finish the tutorial.
Reproduction
1 - Start the game
2 - Start either the tutorial or the game.
3 - press the buttons (trigger, A, B, etc.). A grid will appear over your hand and there should be an hologram in it, voiced and all (according to youtube videos of the game). But nothing happens and the game or tutorial never progress.
There are also minor problems happening (game starts at 90° of your position, controllers suddenly stops receiving position information) but might be from the game itself.
For information: also tried with Proton Experimental, Proton-GE-6.1-2 and even Proton 5.0-10 with these "mfplat" hacks. None of them worked and with Proton-GE the game wouldn't even start. Between each attempt a complete reinstallation of the game was done, including erasing the compatdata's game dir.
I see this information in the steam log:
winegstreamer: error: decodebin0: Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in.
winegstreamer: error: decodebin0: ../src-gst_base/gst/playback/gstdecodebin2.c(4719): gst_decode_bin_expose (): /GstBin:bin0/GstDecodeBin:decodebin0:

Research direction
Start by reproducing the tutorial failure with Proton 6.3-2 and reviewing steam-1498490.log for the GStreamer decoder errors. Compare the reported GStreamer installation and tested Proton versions, then verify that the holograms render and the tutorial progresses.
