Symptoms

When attempting to launch Animaze from Steam, Steam fails to complete the first time setup, and consequently, the program never launches. The dialog box will alternate between displaying "Installing: (step 1 of 0)" and "Installing: (step 1 of 5)". Animaze's startup scripts seem to attempt to install virtual device drivers; it seems plausible that this is causing Steam's attempt to launch Animaze to hang.

Note that Steam did not generate a ~/steam-1365390.log file as expected, even with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% in the launch options for the title. As such, no such file is attached here.

Reproduction

This behavior reproduces consistently on attempted launch of the application from Steam. Proton versions tested include 5.13-5, Proton Experimental (as of February 12, 2021), and third party version 6.0-GE-1.

The report names no source files, tests, or code entry points. First reproduce the Steam launch failure with the listed Proton versions and review the linked system information; done would mean Animaze completes first-time setup and launches successfully.
