  • Installed Steam from the latest.deb download (not apt)
  • Installed updates
  • Enabled Proton 5
  • Downloaded "Factor 2 Demo"
  • After download completes, the files validate no problem. Shows in library etc.
  • Try starting it... I get a small black box. Then a fullscreen black box. Then back to the steam launcher...
  • Launches shows 1min of play time. Was one second of black screen only.
  • enabled logging. Log file attached. Not sure how to diagnose.
  • Log seems to end in a virtual blue screen of death...

Asus MB, i7-2700K, 32Gb RAM, SSD etc. AMD FirePro W2100 dual display

There is lots of evidence of this working for others. But I can't get past the start. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Research direction

Start with the attached steam-400330.log and the reported Mint 18.3/Ubuntu 18.04 setup; reproduce the launch failure with Proton 5 and determine whether the log identifies a component or driver issue. Done means a confirmed fix or a documented compatibility diagnosis, but the issue does not name a source file or test.
