i will embed both files, proton 4 refers to proton 4.2-9.
the other file reffer to proton 5.0-9.

Symptoms:
on proton 4.2-9:
the intro is automatically skiiped, the game start directly at the main screen, the game is playable but any video it might have does not play.
some buttons are mapped wrong (start goes to L3, R3) but i'm using an generic xbox controler so that might be the issue.

*the game crash if you try to minimize it. (the screen goes black)

on proton 5.0-9:
the game isnt playable, the first intro video is skiped, then there is an second presentation showing the characters fighting each other, but instead of showing the characters there are some gigantic pixel blocks (the same goes for the background), you can try to skip this intro, but then the game mainscreen is all black, without any sounds, the game is unplayable at this proton version.

Reproduction:
just opening the game.

Start by reproducing Guilty Gear X2 #Reload on Ubuntu 18.04 with Proton 4.2-9 and 5.0-9, then inspect the corresponding files and reports in the linked proton-debug repository. Done means the game launches with its videos and main screen rendered, remains playable, and no longer crashes when minimized.
