Symptoms

The game launcher comes up fine, but when I click on the icon for "C&C Remastered" or "Red Alert Remastered", my mouse cursor goes away, I become unable to alt-tab, but the game doesn't start. The icon for the game stays in the system tray but nothing ever loads. If I alt-tab to focus the game window, I get a black screen and have to kill the X server or power cycle the computer to get back to a usable system.

Reproduction

1. Launch the game
2. In the launcher, click "C&C Remastered" or "Red Alert Remastered" buttons
3. Observe the behavior described under Symptoms

Start with the linked proton-cnc-fail.txt log and the reported system details, then follow the three reproduction steps with Proton 5.0-7. Compare behavior for both remastered game buttons after the launcher opens. Done means the selected game launches without the black screen, lost input, or need to kill the X server.
