Description
- Steam client version (build number or date): built april 27, 2020
- Opted into Steam client beta?: [No]
- Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes]
I access Steam through a Linux compatibility agent on my chromebook. No issues with downloading steam, downloading games or launching games previously. Since current build, games do not launch. Games downloaded prior to current build do launch. I have verified integrity of game files, making sure that Steam Play is enabled and ensuring that Steam/my own OS are all up to date.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Launch game by clicking "play" icon
- "play" icon changes to "Stop" indicating that game is running.
- After 2-3 seconds, "stop" icon reverts to "play" icon without launching the game itself.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the reported Steam Play launch sequence on the described Linux compatibility setup: click Play, observe the brief Stop state, and confirm that the game does not open. The report names no files, tests, or entry points, so investigation must first identify where Proton handles this launch failure; done means determining why the process exits and restoring game launches.
