Symptoms

In the Swords and Sandals Anthology, a collection of similar Flash-based games, all but one title has major technical issues that make the games unplayable. "Swords and Sandals Classic Collection" is fully playable under 4.11 although is not under 5.0.

In all games, including classic collection, running under 5.0 causes a black box window to appear and linger for an indefinite amount of time. The game never starts. The window cannot be closed either and must be killed via killing the process. In my collection of the logs I waited a while and the Swords and Sandals 5 eventually closed on its own, but the rest I just killed manually after a while.

In 4.11 mode, things get a bit less uniform. 2 Redux and 5 Redux will launch, but with major graphical bugs. They start up windowed, but the game itself is locked to a very small resolution. Having the window larger will just expand the window's dimensions in black, leaving the game itself tiny in the upper left corner of the window at whatever size it is. Trying to go fullscreen through the options causes the game to blackscreen. Attempting to play in the tiny window results in the character not showing up in the character creator, and the game to whitescreen out shortly after going through it. In these logs, since they both act the same way, I fullscreened 2 and whitescreened 5, so you can see both outcomes.

The Swords and Sandals Medieval and Pirates on 4.11 will just go fullscreen with all white and stay like that until closed.

Reproduction

To get the game to not start with a black window, try it in 5.0. To get classic collection to work, run it in 4.11. To get 2 and 5 to blackscreen, launch them and try to enable fullscreen. To get those to go white, keep them in windowed, go through character creation, and it will happen after starting the opening fight. To get Medieval and Pirates to whitescreen, launch them on 4.11.
