Symptoms

Game crashes

Reproduction

  1. Start demo
  2. Get key by using puzzle at door: up right up down right down
  3. Use key on lock at barrels in same room
  4. Game crashes

Doesn't happen on Windows. Looks to be Wine/Proton problem:

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x6cf8236e).

Backtrace:
=>0 0x6cf8236e in mfreadwrite (+0x236e) (0x0032f180)

I expect full game will crash as well.

Research direction

Start with the attached steam-1198910.log and reproduce the crash using the listed puzzle and key steps under Proton 5.0-1. The report identifies an unhandled read fault in 32-bit mfreadwrite; use that trace to investigate the failure. Done means the Veritas demo completes these steps without crashing under Proton.
