Symptoms

I'm trying to run the game from Steam with Vulkan support. Games go black screen after all introduction videos are played. Nothing more happens. Game can be closed by sending SIGKILL signal to process.

Tried with or without Steam overaly — no effect.

Tried OpenGL mode — same black screen.

Reproduction

  1. Set Doom Launch options:
%command% +r_renderAPI 1
  1. Run the game
  2. Wait until all introduction videos are played
  3. Black screen

Research direction

Start by reviewing the attached steam-379720.log and reproducing Doom with Proton 4.11-12, Vulkan or OpenGL, and the listed launch option. Compare behavior before and after the introduction videos; done means the game reaches its playable screen instead of hanging on black.
