Symptoms
The in-game movies do not play. This used to be game-breaking as the game would not progress if the movie could not be played. The issue was patched and now not being able to play movies does not affect progression.
Reproduction
Install the game using Proton. Play the game.

Research direction
Start by reproducing Darksiders Genesis with Proton 4.11-9 using the reported GTX 1070, NVIDIA 440.36, and kernel 5.3.15, then inspect steam-710920.log for the movie-playback failure. Done means the in-game movies play and no longer prevent normal game progression.
