Research direction
Start by reproducing Z1 Battle Royale with Proton 4.11-8 on the listed Linux, kernel, and NVIDIA driver versions, then examine steam-433850_20191110.zip. Done means the game remains connected past the main menu and closing the disconnect dialog no longer leaves background processes running.
