Symptoms
Whenever the game is launched with PROTON_USE_D9VK the game will not render anything, apparently the game still works because pressing the arrow keys will trigger the menu sounds.
According to the PC Gaming Wiki, this game does render with Direct X 9.
Not using this launch parameter gets rid of the black screen, but the point is to get a performance boost using D9VK.
Reproduction
- (Optional) Delete your
compatdata/11390folder if you ran the game before. - Add
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%to the game's launch options - Start the game

Research direction
Start by reproducing the launch with PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% and inspect steam-11390.log for the rendering failure. Use the compatdata/11390 reset step when needed, then compare behavior with and without D9VK; done means Crash Time II renders normally while D9VK is enabled.
