Symptoms

None of the videos load. This includes cutscenes and the background videos they use for certain menus.

I have tried a variety of solutions, including all launch options, emulating a virtual desktop at the videos' resolution, changing "Windows 7" to something older like WinXP in winecfg, installing the Combined Community Codec Pack, and installing, via winetricks, wmp9, quartz, and devenum. Quartz and devenum both installed just fine, but wmp9 will only install on a 32-bit WINE/Proton setup.

I looked around for another download of Windows Media Player 9 for manual installation, but there doesn't appear to be a 64-bit version of it.

According to more information I've found, the current branch of Munch's Oddysee replaced the old cutscene videos with newer community made videos. Some windows users have reported not seeing these cutscenes. The person who made the videos responded by saying it's likely a codec problem and the codecs required come pre-installed on every version of windows.

I'm assuming Proton doesn't come with these codecs installed, and that installing WMP9 would have installed them. Without having access to these codecs, or at least confirming if the codecs come pre-installed with Proton, there is no way to rule this out.

Reproduction

Download, install, and run.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the missing cutscenes and menu background videos with Steam AppID 15740, then inspect steam-15740.log for codec or video-playback errors. Compare the behavior across the reported Proton setup and codec-related configuration; done means the game's videos load or the missing dependency and reproducible limitation are documented.
