System Information

  • GPU: Nvidia GTX780Ti
  • Driver/LLVM version: nvidia 418.56

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

  1. Game plays no cut-scene/cinematic at end of Tutorial level 16.
  2. Uploaded proton log includes this error.

Reproduction

I played the full tutorial before filing this report, so I can get to the bugged level straightaway.

To reproduce this bug on a "new game" you need to play through the whole tutorial to get to the bugged section:

  1. Start game.
  2. Select "more" from main menu.
  3. Select "Training".
  4. Scroll to level 16 "Power Weapons".
  5. Select level 16.
  6. Play trough level 16 to the end.
  7. After level end screen, select continue.
  8. Tutorial complete.
  9. Cut-scene should play here, but no sound/music and no visuals.
  10. Skip cut-scene by clicking and holding the skip button (green button with arrow).
  11. Exit game trough in-game menu.

Discussion

It seems this game uses Media Foundation. There's mentions of it in the Proton log (mferror.dll and mfplat.dll).

It seems Windows 7 also has issues playing the cut-scene.
Quote from developer Silver Dollar Games:

  • Windows 7 users may encounter problems playing the few video files that are in the game. Updating your video codec might fix this. K-lite codec apparently didn't work. WE ARE WORKING ON SOMETHING THAT MIGHT FIX THIS.

mpeg4 file details:

In the game's assets folder there's a mpeg4 file named sharedassets18.resource I think this is the file that's meant to be played at the end of tutorial level 16.

Details of the mpeg4 file:
ffprobe-log-980300.log

Research direction

Reproduce the issue by completing Training level 16, then review steam-980300.log for the mferror.dll and mfplat.dll entries. Examine sharedassets18.resource and ffprobe-log-980300.log to understand the reported video format. Done means the tutorial cut-scene plays with sound and visuals under Proton.
