Description

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Dark Fall 1: The Journal
  • Steam AppID of the game: 260690

System Information

  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000
  • Driver/LLVM version: 3.0 Mesa 18.2.2
  • Kernel version: 4.15.0-46-generic
  • Link to full system information report as Gist: report
  • Proton version: 3.16-8 Beta

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Though fullscreen, the game's graphics are only displayed on a 640x480 area on the upper left corner of the screen (monitor resolution is 1600x900) with the rest of the screen being black. However, the position of the mouse is registered as if the screen was properly filled. See the screenshot for details; the mouse is actually positioned over the Load Game menu entry.

Reproduction

Launch the game.

Notes

The game displays a Made with Macromedia screen on exit, so it seems like this is an old Flash game.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue with Proton 3.16-8 Beta using Steam AppID 260690, then inspect steam-260690.log and the linked system report. Compare the 640x480 rendering and mouse offset against the attached screenshot; done means the game displays at the selected fullscreen resolution with correctly aligned input.
