Description

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: One Finger Death Punch 2 Demo
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1017530

System Information

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

  • Game crashes at exit with Unity report screen (Unity 2018.2.12f1). The game crashes when using a Xbox One Controller, or when using a mouse, so it seems the crash is not related to input devices used.
  • Game doesn't play cut-scenes. Game uses Media Foundation. I found mfplat.dll in the proton log.

Reproduction

Game crash
  1. Start game with Xbox one controller attached to the computer via USB.
  2. Exit game with Xbox one controller input.
  3. Game crashes on exit.

This also works:

  1. Start game.
  2. Exit game with mouse input.
  3. Game crashes on exit.
Cut-scenes
  1. Play game.
  2. On some level transitions there are supposed to be cut-scenes, they don't play, but can be skipped with the controller/mouse input.

Logs:

Proton log for reproduction of crash with Xbox One controller

steam-1017530.log

Proton log for cut-scene not playing

steam-1017530.log
I've played the demo with only mouse and keyboard attached, till I encountered the first cut-scene, which I skipped, and then exited the game (game crashed). This log contains mfplat.dll.

Cut-scenes information:

The cut-scenes are in a file named: sharedassets9.resource this is an MPEG-4 video file.
Output of ffprobe run from terminal (h264 for video, aac for audio): https://gist.github.com/HonkingGoose/63347d62d295af127669309a6ce03fbf

Research direction

Start by reviewing the two linked Proton logs, focusing on the exit crash and the mfplat.dll entry. Compare the reported cut-scene asset, sharedassets9.resource, with the Unity 2018.2.12f1 and Media Foundation symptoms, then reproduce both scenarios. Done means the crash and cut-scene behavior are explained and compatibility is improved or the findings are documented.
