Symptoms
The game fails to start with no GUI error message. Proton log: steam-237570.log
Installing the latest winetricks and protontricks and using protontricks to (re)install XNA 4.0 (command: protontricks 237570 xna40) fixes the issue. This command first brings up the option to repair the existing .NET Framework installation, which takes a while. The actual XNA installation only comes after this and is much quicker than the .NET repair.
After this manual .NET repair and XNA installation, the game takes about 15 seconds to start but based on 2 hours of gameplay, it runs perfectly.
Reproduction
Download the game and attempt to run it.

Research direction
Start by reviewing steam-237570.log and the reported Proton 3.7-8 behavior on the listed Intel GPU, Mesa, and kernel versions. Reproduce by launching Steam AppID 237570 without the manual protontricks repair and XNA installation. Done means the game starts without that workaround and remains playable as reported.
