Research direction
Start by reviewing steam-931460.log and reproducing the launch through the Steam Client with Proton 3.7 on the reported Debian system. Compare that failure with the provided direct Proton command, and consider the issue resolved when the game launches successfully through Steam rather than only from Proton's binaries.
