Description

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Space Invaders Extreme (demo)
  • Steam AppID of the game: 838400

System Information

  • GPU: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Iris Plus Graphics 640 (Kaby Lake GT3e)
  • Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 18.1.8
  • Kernel version: 4.18.4
  • Link to full system information report as Gist: link
  • Proton version: 3.7 (1535035861)

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Setting PROTON_LOG=1 didn't generate a file named steam-744050.log in my $HOME, for some reason. The game's own crash dump (when run without extra options) has been uploaded here: 2018-09-09_214400.tar.gz.

Symptoms

Game hangs on startup until wineserver is killed, then displays its own crash report. The Unity crash report has been attached.

If either PROTON_USE_WINED3D11 or PROTON_NO_D3D11 are set, the game successfully starts after killing wineserver.

Reproduction

  1. Start the game.
  2. Wait, nothing happens.
  3. Kill the Proton wineserver process.
  4. Game either displays a crash report or starts, see above.

Research direction

No source file or test is named. Start by reproducing the startup hang with Proton 3.7 on the reported Linux system, then compare normal execution with PROTON_USE_WINED3D11 and PROTON_NO_D3D11 set. Done means the game starts without killing wineserver and no longer produces the reported crash.
