Description
Describe the bug
Simple HJKL motion or arrow keys don't move line-to-line correctly so that you stay in the same column
To Reproduce
In the image below note the cursor column
Then hit down arrow and look where you move to
Expected behavior
I expect the cursor to move down one line and stay in the same column.
What am I missing, this is a critical requirement of any editor....

Research direction
Reproduce the issue in the VS Code Vim extension using HJKL and the arrow keys, recording the cursor column before and after moving between lines. Trace the cursor-motion entry point and compare the observed position with the expected same-column behavior; done when vertical movement preserves the starting column.
