Description

I'm working on a VSCode extension and I want the functions to be compatible with VSCodeVim.
My extension needs to detect whether the editor is currently in Vim INSERT mode. What is the best way to do this?

Research direction

The issue concerns a VS Code extension detecting whether VSCodeVim is in INSERT mode, but it names no files, tests, or implementation entry point. First determine whether VS Code or VSCodeVim exposes an integration point for the current mode; a useful outcome would be a confirmed supported approach and a clearly scoped change or documentation update.
