Description

Describe the bug
Repeating the last search with the commands //{offset}<CR> (forwards) and ??{offset}<CR> (backwards) does not work. Instead, these commands seem to match any character, effectively moving the cursor over by one character.

Expected behavior
According to the help page, the correct behaviour is:

//{offset}<CR>

Search forward for the [count]'th occurrence of the
latest used pattern |last-pattern| with new
|{offset}|. If {offset} is empty no offset is used.

and similarly for the backwards version.

Environment (please complete the following information):

  • Extension (VsCodeVim) version: 1.24.2
  • VSCode version: 1.73.0
  • OS: Windows 10

Research direction

Reproduce the issue in VSCodeVim with //{offset}<CR> and ??{offset}<CR> using the reported environment, then trace the handlers for repeated forward and backward searches. Done means both commands search for the latest pattern with the supplied offset, while an empty offset preserves the documented behavior.
