Research direction
Reproduce the VS Code Vim behavior with "insert spaces when Tab" disabled using the reported sequence: Tab, s, Tab, Backspace, Backspace. Compare the result with Vim disabled, then trace the extension's Tab and Backspace key handling to identify where the behaviors diverge. Done means the enabled and disabled Vim cases handle deletion consistently with the intended editor behavior.
