Description

When I select text with SHIFT and arrow keys it says the mode is NORMAL, where it should be VISUAL mode.
edit: same for editor.action.smartSelect.shrink and editor.action.smartSelect.grow

Research direction

Reproduce the issue in VS Code Vim by selecting text with SHIFT+arrow, then try editor.action.smartSelect.shrink and editor.action.smartSelect.grow. Trace the mode transition and selection handling from those entry points; done means each operation reports VISUAL mode when text is selected.
