Feature request

Please implement persistent undo, like what you get when you have set undofile in vim. Being able to undo in a file even if you've closed it first and then reopened it (even when rebooting between closing and reopening) is very convenient 😃

Research direction

The issue does not identify any files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the existing undo handling and compare the requested behavior with Vim's set undofile; done means undo history survives closing and reopening a file, including after a reboot.
