Description
Agreed methodology
Agreed in meeting with @tomjemmett / @yiwen-h / @paulseamer 10/09/2026
- lookup if procedure code is in theatre times dataset
- if yes, it probably happened in theatre
- we allocate this to the functional area groupings relating to theatres
- use the assumption from the assumptions csv for the procedure time
If a procedure code was not in the theatre times dataset we assume it did not happen in a theatre
We are looking at the procedure codes that happen in each episode. small risk of double counting?
Advantages of switching to episode level: if a patient has different procedures in different episodes we will capture these
This has been implemented in https://github.com/The-Strategy-Unit/nhp_data/pull/284

Where/how do we record this?

Research direction
Start by reviewing nhp_data pull request 284 and the assumptions CSV referenced in the methodology. Identify where the episode-level theatre functional-area method should be recorded in open-plan-docs; done means the implemented approach and its assumptions are documented in an agreed location.
