Description

When setting up a custom appearance, artifacts appear when rendering messages. The corners are not rounded, the color of the messages does not change. This happens when dark mode is on. There are no errors in normal system mode.

Expected Behavior

Messages should normally be rounded off and the background of messages should be painted over.

Actual Behavior

Messages are not rounded or recolored when the system theme is dark.

Steps to Reproduce
  1. Turn on dark mode
  2. Change the appearance of messages

Research direction

Reproduce on an iPhone X running iOS 14.0.1 with dark mode enabled, then apply a custom message appearance and compare the screenshots. The issue is done when message corners are rounded and message backgrounds are recolored consistently in dark mode without changing normal system-mode behavior.
