Yes, DNS needs to be done manually by the user when connecting to SMB or FTP servers.
Describe the solution you'd like
Allow for not connecting to an IP, but to domain directly.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Manually checking the IP
Additional context
I'm not quite sure how useful this would be, but it seems that it would help people connecting to cloud SMB services.
